Job Description
The New York City Department of Finance (DOF) administers the City’s tax revenue laws in a fair, efficient, and transparent manner to promote public confidence, encourage voluntary compliance, and deliver high-quality customer service.
Division Overview
DOF’s Treasury and Payment Services Division oversees Citywide payment platforms, tax return processing, property recording forms, parking violation programs, delinquent account collections, and the management of City cash balances and banking relationships. The division also manages the collection of outstanding violations issued by City agencies and adjudicated by the Environmental Control Board.
The Payments, Billing, and Refunds Unit is responsible for processing payments related to property taxes and charges, business and excise taxes, and parking and camera violations. The unit communicates amounts due, maintains accurate account records, performs account adjustments, and responds to refund inquiries from the public.
The Business Tax Customer Contact Center handles inquiries from business taxpayers using e-Services and the Business Tax Collection System (BTCS). Staff assist taxpayers via phone and electronic communications by answering questions related to tax returns and payments, supporting navigation of online services, and resolving technical issues.
Position Summary
The Business Tax Adjustments & Customer Service Unit is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and customer-focused City Tax Auditor to join its contact center team. The selected candidate will provide direct assistance to business taxpayers, deliver detailed tax-related guidance, and conduct research on Business and Excise Tax accounts.
